What is the MIT Research Study?
NBC and the MIT Education Arcade are conducting a research study to find out how iCue can help students learn. The MIT researchers would like to know how you are using iCue, how much time you spend on the activities and how you are using the discussion forums and Friend Network. This information will be used to help make the next version of iCue even better, as well as to help researchers understand even more about how students use games and social networks to learn new things.
Join and you will automatically be entered to win one of FIVE 4G iPod Video Nanos!
By joining the MIT research study, you will be helping MIT researchers learn more about how students like to learn and how to make learning more fun. You will also be helping us make the next version of iCue even better. There are no risks to participating in the study, and you don't have to do anything other than use the program as you were planning to anyway. And if you join the study, you could win one of five 4G iPod Video Nanos.
Your participation in the research is completely anonymous. The researchers will have access to information about how you are using the program and will know your age and state, but will NOT be able to identify you by your real name, iCue display name, or other personally identifiable information. All of your information is kept completely private and confidential.
It's easy all you have to do is agree to join the study when you register (or on your Settings page in your personal profile if you are already a member) and use iCue as you would normally.
You will only be included in the study if you agree to participate. If you are under 18, you will also need a parent or guardian to give permission to participate. If you are a minor, we will ask you for their email address when you sign up for the study.
If you are a minor, you will be able to see the status of your parent's agreement on your personal profile page. When you agree to participate in the study, we will send an email to your parent or guardian letting them know that you have requested permission to participate. They need to click on a link in the email to let us know if they agree with the study terms. You will not be registered for the study or entered in the drawing for the iPod Video Nano until your parentor guardian agrees to the terms. If your personal profile shows that your study participation is "pending", you may want to check with them to make sure they received the email. You can also send the request to a different email address by clicking on the Settings link at the top of any page and then entering the new email address in the Account Management section. However, your parent or guardian will no longer be able to respond to the original email.
When you (and your parent or guardian, if you are a minor) have agreed to the study terms, you are automatically entered in the drawing for one of five 4G iPod Video Nanos.
